Saxifragaceae This family includes perennial herbs and deciduous shrubs. The fruit type is a capsule or berry. The flower parts tend to be in 4's or 5's with stamens equal to or twice the number of sepals and with a pistil of 2 to 5 united carpels having numerous ovules. Leaves are mostly without stipules and usually alternate. The Saxifragaceae include food and ornamental plants. In the wild they are typical of arctic, and boreal regions.
