Description

"Trunk mostly subterranean, sometimes forming an aerial trunk to 1 m high, 20-50 cm diam. Leaves 50-100 in the crown, 60-200 cm long, rachis not twisted; pinnae 70-160, simple, thin and rather lax, shining above, longest 17-35 cm long, 4-11 mm wide, crowded; 2 or 3, occasionally up to 15, of the lowest pinnae reduced to spines; spine-free petiole 12-60 cm long. Male cones 15-35 cm long, 4-7 cm diam., longest spines 1-2.5 cm long. Female cones 20-40 cm long, 7-13 cm diam., longest spines 2-3.5 cm long, seeds 25-35 mm long, 18-30 mm diam., orange to red when ripe" (2).

Australia: NSW & Qld. "Grows on low flat ground between upper Richmond R. and Clarence R.; rare" (2).
